 BCS Digital Skills - Skills for life in a digital world - Now even more learner-friendly!

Do you have learners that are interested in learning more about social networking or how to make free video calls online? Or would they like to learn how to use an MP3 player / iPod and organise and transfer music using their computer? Do they ask what social networking or Facebook is?

BCS Digital Skills is the Entry Level course that covers these skills and many more, across a range of engaging and easy-to-learn units. Digital Skills is suitable for learners of all ages and abilities and has been designed to be as accessible as possible.

It comes complete with interactive e-learning that remembers a learners' progress and helps them advance at a comfortable pace - and it's perfect for both distance and blended learning.

The qualification is available as one of two versions. The full Digital Skills qualification comprises 7 units, 100 guided learning hours with 13 QCF Credits. A new 2-unit option: Digital Skills - Getting Started covers 2 units, 24 guided learning hours with 3 QCF Credits

Flexible ECDL - Level 1 units

IT user fundamentals

Builds the learner’s confidence by teaching basic interaction with computers, from start-up to productive use and basic computer housekeeping.

Using email and the internet

Helps the learner understand how to use internet and email in a safe and secure way, explaining key terms and developing fundamental knowledge of computer security.

Security for IT users

Provides the learner with an essential understanding of how to use a computer in a safe and secure manner, protecting their own data as well as that of other users.

Word processing

Helps the learner use a range of basic word processing software tools and techniques to produce appropriate, straightforward or routine documents.

Spreadsheet software

Enables learners to use a range of basic spreadsheet software tools and techniques to produce spreadsheets.

Presentation software

Provides the skills to use a range of basic presentation software tools. Learners will be able to create text based or diagram based slide shows and lecture notes.

Database software

Introduces learners to basic database software tools, enabling them to enter information, set up single tables and retrieve information by running database queries.

Improving productivity using IT

Enables the learner to work more effectively with IT. As a result of reviewing their work, they will be able to identify and use automated methods or alternative ways of working to improve productivity.


Flexible ECDL - Level 2 units

Word processing

Develops the learner’s ability to create word-processed documents: entering text, editing and formatting work, using graphs, tables and pictures for a professional finish, and effectively using tools such as the spell-checker and mail merge.

Spreadsheet software

Helps the learner develop a working knowledge of spreadsheets, from entering data and formatting worksheets, to creating charts and producing high-quality documents.

Presentation software

Shows the learner how to produce high-quality presentations using a variety of tools including charts, graphs and drawn objects.

Database software

Looks at creating and modifying tables, queries, forms and reports, and preparing outputs ready for distribution, as well as learning to relate tables and retrieve and manipulate information using query and sort tools.

Improving productivity using IT

Enables the learner to work more effectively with IT. This unit looks at using tools to save time and effort when producing word processed documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
